Google ban costs Gambling.com £1 Million per year
In 2005 Media Copr bought the domain www.gambling.com. In 2006, it anounced that the domain had earned over £2 Million after taxes. Then, suddenly, in 2007 the website, which was previously in the Number 1 spot on Google's search engine using the term "gambling" had fallen to the 100th spot. Naturally, this hit the company extremely hard in the revenues department. In fact, the company, as estimated by Justin Drummond, the company's Chief Executive, lost over &poind;1 Million in post tax profits in 2007 and 2008.
It was bad enough that the UIGEA, enforced in late 2006, had caused the company significant losses, but now, with this new penalty from Google, it was haemmorhaging money. Luckily, the ban was lifted on October 16th and Media Corp could refocus its efforts on other revenue-generating project like its new Poker site, Purple Lounge, whihc it recently acquired for £500,000.
We wish Media Corp all the best for the future.
