Video Poker is just like Draw Poker. The machine deals you 5 cards and you must make a winning hand with them. You may opt to discard some or all cards and receive new cards in their place. If the replacement hand yields a Poker hand, then you get paid according to the payout chart.

Video Poker cards are just like regular cards in a deck and are ranked from highest to lowest as follows:

• Ace. This can count as either high (Royal Flush) or low (Straight)



• King



• Queen



• Jack



• Ten



• Nine



• Eight



• Seven



• Six



• Five



• Four



• Three



• Two

As your first rule of thumb, you should memorize the Video Poker hand rankings.

• Royal Flush - The highest hand rank possible. It consists of Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten all in the same suit.
• Straight Flush - Five cards in the same suit and in sequence; for e.g., 9h, 8h, 7h, 6h, 5h (where h = hearts).
• Four of a Kind - Four cards all in the same rank; for e.g. 6h, 6c, 6s, 6d, Jc. As you can see 4 of the cards are all in the same rank.
• Full House - Three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank; for e.g., Qc, Qd, Qh, 8s, 8d.
• Flush - Five cards all in the same suit; for e.g. Jc, 8c, 6c, 3cs, Ac.





• Straight - Five cards all in the same sequence. In this instance the Ace can only count or be used as a high card as in this e.g.: Ac, Kd, Qs, Jh, 10d.



• Three of a Kind - Three cards all in the same rank; for e.g. 4s, 4d, 4c, 9h, Qs.





• Two Pair - Two groups of two cards of the same rank; for e.g. 5s, 5h, Jc, Jd, Kc.





• Pair - One pair of two cards of the same rank; for e.g. As, Ad.





• High Card - When your hand does not constitute any of the above hands, its relative value is determined by the highest value card.

A lot of people mistake Video Poker for regular Poker. The only similarity between the two games is the hand rankings. Otherwise they are two totally different games with different rules. In Video Poker, you don't play against other people, you are playing against the machine. Additionally there is no dealer in Video Poker, the machine deals the cards to you. And you can't bluff in Video Poker like you can in regular Poker; if you have a bad hand, you will lose - no Ifs, Ands, or Bluffs.
